There is nothing more frustrating than having a huge gas bill come in the mail and not understanding exactly why that is. With a few simple changes to your daily routine you can make sure that you will start saving that well deserved money where it matters the most.
FREE Ways to Save on Gas
There are tons of ways to save money on your gas bill, but some of them require installation of new items. These methods are completely free and just involve making changes to how you typically run things.
Turn the Thermostat Down
In order to save around 3-4% of your gas bill turn down your thermostat 1 degree. If you can turn down your thermostat around 10 degrees when you are not home, and when you are sleeping (Roughly 16-18 hours a day) you will save roughly 14% on your gas bill.
Turn Down your Water Heater
By lowering the temperature of your water heater to say 120 degrees you can reduce the power use without much difference noticed.
Curtains
Opening curtains during the day will help allow for the solar waves to hear your home, and provide lighting as well, which can save on your electric bill.
Less Expensive Fixes
There are a few additional ideas that you can use to save money on your gas bill but they require spending some money.
Windows
Try putting plastic around your windows to help save from any air getting outside.
Insulation
Make sure your home is well insulated especially in the attic, should you have one. You can buy some padded insulation for not very much at a local home improvement store.
Low Flow Showerhead
Not only does this save you money on your water bill but also on your gas bill because it doesn’t require you getting as much hot water output.
Block Leaks
You can help to save additional money by blocking small gaps or leaks of air around your windows and doors. Plugging these leaks of air up can help you to save around 10% on your bill.
As you can see with a few simple changes both free and low cost, you can start adding up big savings on your gas bill in no time at all.
